Accelerating Performance
When it comes to housing, Canadians demand affordable quality and want action on climate change. Leading home builders know this and want to build to a high standard, while aiming even higher.
EnerQuality’s mission is to help.
As the #1 certifier of energy efficient housing in Canada (120,000 homes to date) and the market leader in residential high performance building programs, we are well-equipped to do so.
Founded in 1998, EnerQuality has been creating and delivering voluntary, market-based programs that have helped builders innovate and stay competitive for the last 20 years. We partner with government, manufacturers, utilities and professionals to bring our programs to the industry, helping to move the industry forward, building for a better future.
Our long-standing relationships within the homebuilding industry allow us an unique opportunity to bring together different perspectives—energy advisors, builders, manufacturers, officials and others—to initiate meaningful, future-focused conversations. Open, honest conversations like these have lead to demonstration projects with emerging technologies and builders, material changes to government programs and new labeling programs and initiatives.

In 2005, EnerQuality joined forces with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to develop ENERGY STAR® for New Homes. We are proud to say that together we created the most successful energy efficiency program in Canadian housing, proving that together, government and industry can do great things

In 2018, EnerQuality and NRCan again teamed up to develop ENERGY STAR® Multifamily. Now in market, we’re working with the Government of Canada and the homebuilding industry to change how we build mid/high-rise housing.

On the heels of these successes, we continue to push forward with timely course topics, events and industry support, ensuring our builders are well prepared for the next challenge, industry focus or consumer concern.
Building for the future

Improving the energy efficiency of housing plays an important role in Canada’s climate action plan. The good news is Canada has been a global leader in building science since the 1970s. Thanks to market transformation programs like ENERGY STAR®, Optimum Home and Savings By Design, energy efficiency has gone mainstream and Canadian housing is on the path to net zero.
But there’s more to better building than just energy efficiency. Durability, resilience and occupant health are equally important dimensions of quality. And when it comes to carbon, how we plan our communities and the materials we use in construction are as meaningful as the energy we use to power our homes.
EnerQuality has been at the forefront of these industry conversations, ensuring that our programs and workshops are reflecting the current market, and preparing our builders and their workforce, for the future. We are also investigating ways to incorporate ESG metrics (environmental (E), social (S), and governance (G)) into the certification process.
EnerQuality’s builders and partners are serious about sustainability, trained in building science and skilled in quality construction. They’re the best in the business and we’re proud to work with them.
